Traffic on the MacKay Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Tuesday, July 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accommodate urgent repairs to the road deck.
The emergency repairs will take place on the two south lanes where a paving failure is creating a pressing safety concern. We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause.
Reminder: Macdonald Bridge sidewalk resurfacing
The rehabilitation of the sidewalk on the Macdonald Bridge will begin Tuesday, July 5 and will continue for approximately two weeks. The rehabilitation project will temporarily inconvenience both pedestrians and cyclists throughout the duration.
Overnight closures:
From July 5 to 14, the pedestrian walkway will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. to allow workers to remove the current surface coating, and prepare the sidewalk for new coatings.
During the closures, pedestrians will be able to use the bikeway. As a safety precaution, cyclists are asked to dismount their bikes and walk across the bridge. If cyclists are unable to dismount their bicycles, they are urged to use extra caution and yield to pedestrians.
Weekend closure:
From July 15 at 7 p.m. to July 18 at 5:30 a.m., the pedestrian walkway will be completely closed, as crews apply and cure the new sidewalk coatings.
During that closure, pedestrians will be able to use the bike lane. Cyclists are again asked to dismount their bicycles and walk them across the bridge. Cyclists who are unable to dismount their bikes are urged to use extra caution and yield to pedestrians.
The sidewalk resurfacing work is weather dependent, and the schedule is subject to change. Updates will be posted to the HHB’s website and social media accounts.
The pedestrian walkway resurfacing project is expected to cost HHB an estimated $1.2 million.
