Get MACPASS and get going
MACPASS is Halifax Harbour Bridges’ electronic tolling system that allows drivers to pass through the tolls of the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Murray MacKay bridges without stopping.
The MACPASS itself is free, convenient, and comes with a discount over paying toll fees with cash. Using a MACPASS also helps reduce congestion, and helps cut harmful emissions from idling vehicles.

Get ready for the future: Switch to a sticker transponder
Halifax Harbour Bridges is saying goodbye to the hard-shell MACPASS transponders after more than 20 years.
In 2020, sticker transponders were introduced for all new customers, which provide a superior experience with fewer read errors at the toll plazas. They are also compatible with the next-generation tolling options coming soon to Halifax’s bridges.
As a result, in the coming months we will be phasing out the hard-shell transponders in favour of the easy-to-install stickers. To order your new stickers(s), simply log into your account on mymacpass.com. Use our step-by-step guide or watch the following video below to learn how to make the swap yourself.
No more dangling from Velcro
Sticker transponders are installed in the same location as the hard shells: inside your windshield just under the rear-view mirror. They are permanent and cannot be removed without damaging them. Transponders are free, so users can order as many transponders as they have vehicles and manage them through a single MACPASS account.

SAFETY AT THE TOLLS
Safety is our number one concern. Unlike cars, motorcycles, mopeds and scooters do not have a standard location to mount a MACPASS to ensure maximum reliability. Learn More >
The MACPASS transponder is a small electronic device that attaches to the windshield of your vehicle and contains information that identifies your account. As you approach a toll lane an overhead antenna identifies your MACPASS transponder and deducts the toll from your MACPASS account. The signal reads “GO” and you continue on your way.
The transponder works in most vehicles with standard windshields. There are some vehicles that have windshields with metal content such as heated windshields, windshields with chromium oxide for UV protection, or windshields with a built in antenna that prevent the MACPASS transponder from being read in the standard location. In this case please contact our MACPASS Customer Service at (902 463-3100) to see if the transponder can be moved to an alternative location on the windshield.
MACPASS offers a discount over using cash as well as added convenience. You can use any lane with your MACPASS and there are dedicated MACPASS-only lanes to make your trip more efficient.
For commercial users, MACPASS offers an easier way for you to track your organization’s toll costs and eliminates the need for employees to carry change.
All customers that use MACPASS as the quickest and easiest means for crossing the bridges agree to install and use the MACPASS correctly. Failure to do so can result in the cancellation of the users privileges to use MACPASS.
Please refer to the MACPASS Customer Agreement for details regarding vehicle liability issues. This agreement can also be found by clicking the following link: Macpass User Guide
Halifax Harbour Bridges and the Halifax Stanfield International Airport are making travelling easier. The MACPASS plus service allows you to use your MACPASS to pay for short and long-term parking in the parkade at the airport. MACPASS plus provides drivers the convenience of reduced wait times with MACPASS plus express payment lanes and cashless parking.
The Cobequid Pass E-Pass and the Confederation Bridge Strait Pass systems use the same transponder as the MACPASS system. You can use MACPASS with the other toll facilities in the Maritimes if you set up a separate account with them.
