You have arrived at the right spot! If this looks different from what you are use to, don’t worry. We have integrated the macpass.com website with the website for Halifax Harbour Bridges (hdbc.ca). All the information you are accustomed to is here. That includes access to your personal macpass account information, which of course, remains a secure site. Just click on “mymacpass” in the upper right-hand corner of this site.
Here is a short video describing why you should choose MACPASS!
MACPASS is the electronic tolling system of Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB). Approximately 85 per cent of bridge crossings during the peak travel times of the day are made using MACPASS. MACPASS allows users to pass through the toll lanes of the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Murray MacKay bridges without stopping and at a less expensive rate than using cash, making it the best way to cross the harbour.
In 2020 we introduced a new transponder. There is no need to switch the transponder in your vehicle, the hard shell will continue to work but all new transponders issued are sticker transponders. They are installed in the same location – inside your windshield just under the rearview mirror.
Order a transponder for each vehicle you own (you can have more than one transponder on the same account). When the sticker transponder is removed from the windshield it will no longer work. There is no cost for a new transponder and you can order it from your on-line account or call the customer service centre at 902.463.3100.
Axle-based tolling is used to determine the toll. This means the toll you pay is based on the number of axles on your vehicle. View Toll Rates >
GETTING THROUGH THE TOLLS
ITS AS EASY AS 1,2, 3
- Follow the installation instructions provided with your MACPASS.
- Slow Down. The speed limit is 25km/h.
- Make sure your account balance is positive.
SAFETY AT THE TOLLS
Safety is our number one concern. Unlike cars, motorcycles, mopeds and scooters do not have a standard location to mount a MACPASS to ensure maximum reliability. Learn More >
The MACPASS transponder is a small electronic device that attaches to the windshield of your vehicle and contains information that identifies your account. As you approach a toll lane an overhead antenna identifies your MACPASS transponder and deducts the toll from your MACPASS account. The signal reads “GO” and you continue on your way.
The transponder works in most vehicles with standard windshields. There are some vehicles that have windshields with metal content such as heated windshields, windshields with chromium oxide for UV protection, or windshields with a built in antenna that prevent the MACPASS transponder from being read in the standard location. In this case please contact our MACPASS Customer Service at (902 463-3100) to see if the transponder can be moved to an alternative location on the windshield.
MACPASS offers a discount over using cash as well as added convenience. You can use any lane with your MACPASS and there are dedicated MACPASS-only lanes to make your trip more efficient.
For commercial users, MACPASS offers an easier way for you to track your organization’s toll costs and eliminates the need for employees to carry change.
All customers that use MACPASS as the quickest and easiest means for crossing the bridges agree to install and use the MACPASS correctly. Failure to do so can result in the cancellation of the users privileges to use MACPASS.
Please refer to the MACPASS Customer Agreement for details regarding vehicle liability issues. This agreement can also be found by clicking the following link: Macpass User Guide
Halifax Harbour Bridges and the Halifax Stanfield International Airport are making travelling easier. The MACPASS plus service allows you to use your MACPASS to pay for short and long-term parking in the parkade at the airport. MACPASSplus provides drivers the convenience of reduced wait times with MACPASS plus express payment lanes and cashless parking.
The Cobequid Pass E-Pass and the Confederation Bridge Strait Pass systems use the same transponder as the MACPASS system. You can use MACPASS with the other toll facilities in the Maritimes if you set up a separate account with them.
