The Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will be closed this weekend to allow work crews to replace a critical bearing on the Dartmouth side of the iconic structure.
The bridge will close to all traffic Friday, April 14, beginning at 7:00 pm and reopen on Monday, April 17 at 5:30 am.
The replacement of the bearing requires the jacking up of a section of the bridge. It is an integral part of maintenance efforts to keep the harbour crossing operating at peak efficiency.
The weekend effort is part of a four-year program to replace bearings that have been in place since the bridge was built. The sidewalk and the bikeway will remain open.
Planning for this work has been underway for several months. Unfortunately, it comes as Moosehead playoff hockey continues. We urge fans to build in extra travel time when they head to the games Friday and Saturday..
