Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) will complete several construction projects in 2020
It’s business as usual at HHB to ensure the bridges are well maintained and safe for the travelling public. The projects require multiple overnight lane closures and several full weekend closures on either the Macdonald or the MacKay bridge. Traffic is reduced during the pandemic so we hope the impact of the closures for customers will also be reduced. The current schedule for the closures can be found here. Work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled.
Expansion joint replacements on the Halifax approach span and Dartmouth pier.
This project will require multiple two lane closures from 7:00pm until 5:30am and two full weekend closures. The exact dates will be communicated in advance.
MacKay Bridge main cable inspection
A portion of the main cable at the Dartmouth main tower on the MacKay Bridge will be enclosed so workers can conduct a detailed inspection.
Resurfacing sidewalk approaches
A project to repair sections of the wearing surface on the approaches to the sidewalk of the Macdonald Bridge begins Tuesday, May 19. To complete the work while keeping the sidewalk open, the sidewalk will be narrowed to 4.5 feet through the construction zone. The approach spans were not replaced as part of the Big Lift.
To ensure HHB adheres to proper COVID-19 public health measures, signs will be posted to direct people to walk single file through the construction zone. In addition traffic control personnel will help direct pedestrians.
Multiple single lane overnight closures will also be required through the summer to complete the work. These will take place between 7pm and 5:30am.
The bike lane is not impacted by this work.
